No further information in Rowland or Howell.
The Official Records of the War of Northern Aggression state that Capt. C.F. Hamer had earlier commanded the Hamer Rifles, an independent infantry company ordered into active service May 21, 1861. The Hamer Rifles were made part of the 18th MS Infantry on November 1, 1863; C.F. Hamer was still captain of the company at that time.
