This unit was formed from remnants of the 9th Battalion Mississippi Sharpshooters, and remnants of the 7th, 10th, 41st, and 44th Regiments of Mississippi Infantry at Smithfield, North Carolina, April 9, 1865. Johnstons army, of which this unit was a part, was surrendered on April 26, 1865.
